GOING DOWNHILL…
San
Jorge Eco-Tours has over 12 years experience in mountain biking downhill
and cross-country. All tours are around second and third roads -
forget pavement!
Exploring Ecuador by bike completely immerses you in the surrounding
environment and can be a much more efficient way to see all that this
beautiful country has to offer. We invite you to tour with the former
President of Pichincha Province Mountain Biking Commission as one of
your Bilingual English-Spanish private guides. You will visit beautiful
mountains, valleys, jungles, forgotten villages and active volcanoes
in the paradise of Ecuador. All tours are based from San
Jorge Eco-Lodge & Botanical Reserve, outside of Quito.
Ecuador offers
the cyclist seemingly endless back roads and trails to explore.
The Incas, who were legendary road builders, and their living descendants,
have been carving scenic paths for centuries. The Andes creates a playground
of huge vertical descents and gut-wrenching climbs at altitudes where
the snow line and the equator meet. Descents of 10,000 ft. in a single
day can be obtained in several areas of the country. Cotopaxi Volcano,
is not only the highest active volcano in the world, the world-class
descent directly down the slopes of it is considered by many of the
top professional downhill racers today, to be the fastest downhill
course in the world. Cotopaxi Volcano, the technical descent down
Pichincha Volcano and trips that take riders from the heights of the
Andes to the Amazon Basin are all highly recommended.highly recommended.
You can bring your bike with you, or if you choose to, leave it at home
and ride one of ours. We use Bianchi aluminum-framed bikes with Answer
Manitou suspension systems for a lightweight, comfortable riding experience.
All of our bikes are professionally maintained, inspected and serviced
every 15 days.
Our One-Day Tours are also the perfect addition to your stay at the
San Jorge Eco-Lodge. Spend a day racing down volcanoes at incredible
speeds, put your lungs and climbing skills to the test, or take a more
leisurely scenic tour of local farms and villages. Whatever your ability
or preference, we have a trip to enhance your stay with us.
Our expert guides know the country very well and can take you anywhere
you would like to go. Custom itineraries are available to suit your
additional areas of interest. These are just a few of our most popular
tours:

begin our journey with transport to Cotopaxi National Reserve
and drive through páramo (desert) landscape to the highest
point, where we take a moment to enjoy the magnificent views of
8 different volcanoes. Here, we begin our descent down the slopes
of the world's highest active volcano. Only the most adventuresome
would let go of the brakes on this ride, as doing so will cause
incredible acceleration. Bike downhill through gorgeous scenery
from 4500 mts. o.s.l. on dirt roads through volcanic ash and páramo
landscape to Inca ruins at 3.700 mts where we stop for lunch,
keeping an eye out for majestic condors in the skies above . In
the afternoon, we roll past shimmering Limpiopungo Lake, through
pine forest. We will also visit Ruminahui, Pasochoa, and the Sincholagua
Mountains, areas considered sacred by the Incas. Altitudes: 4500-3200
mts. (15000-10600 ft.)
Seeing
Cotopaxi from afar was great, but actually climbing to the top
and riding down was amazing. Our guides were very informative
and we learned a lot about the history of the area as well. Everything
was just incredible, a once in a lifetime experience, we're already
planning our return! Bill Machon, USA
